Hands-on with animal lessons
Cook Islands NEWS -- June 18th, 2011
How to pat dogs and behave around local animals are some of the valuable lessons Blackrock Apii Potiki kids learned this weeks.
The pre-school kids have been learning about animals this week and to help the students understand local animals better, the kids were treated to a visit to the Esther Honey Foundation animal clinic in Nikao.
The kids met clinic director Gregg Young who taught them that the best way to pat a dog is to let the creature smell your hands first so it gets to know you and won't bite.
The kids were especially thrilled to meet the little piglet that was receiving treatment at the clinic after it was attacked by a dog.
Before saying goodbye to the animals, the kids donated some tinned animal food and biscuits for their new furry friends.
The school would like to thank Young and the clinic staff for hosting the kids for a day of great learning.
